Our Foundation
Voices Unbound: Strategic Narrative for Social Transformation
Voices Unbound exists to disrupt the cycle of systemic inequality across East Africa. We recognized a critical failure in the traditional landscape: the persistent silencing and misrepresentation of women, girls, and marginalized communities. Founded by a specialized collective of media professionals and grassroots activists, our organization was built to turn the power of storytelling into a tool for community reclamation.
Our origin is rooted in deep community listening. Through intensive consultations, we identified urgent and unmet needs in menstrual health education, gender justice, and climate resilience. In spaces where traditional media remained silent or insensitive, Voices Unbound pioneered a participatory model. We merge radio, digital storytelling, and community led dialogues into a singular force for advocacy and action.
Today, we go beyond storytelling to build leaders. By equipping youth and women with the technical mastery of journalism and digital advocacy, we transform local participants into global agents of change. Our mission is unwavering. We drive social transformation through equitable communication to ensure that in the journey of regional development, every voice is heard and no one is left behind.
OUR PRIDE
At Voices Unbound, our pride is how we have successfully harnessed the transformative
power of media and communication to create lasting change in the lives of marginalized
communities. Among our many achievements, the one that stands out is the “Keep a Sister
Initiative, which addressed menstrual health and hygiene to girls and young teenage mothers
in underserved regions of Kenya (Kibera), South Sudan (Equatorial State Aweil), and Kismayo
Lower Jubaland state Somalia.
The "Why" Behind the Change.
Voices Unbound stems from a profound belief: Every voice has the potential to spark transformation.
Growing up in regions where systemic inequality and cultural stigmas were the norm, I witnessed the untapped power of individuals especially women and youth constrained by circumstances rather than potential.
Media and communication became my tools of choice because they transcend borders and challenge social norms. Whether addressing menstrual health or climate resilience, we create spaces where the unheard can speak.
Bridging Perspectives in Somalia
Addressing menstrual health stigma in sensitive cultural landscapes.
Rather than imposing ideas, we listened. We integrated storytelling with cultural sensitivity, using local voices to champion the cause.
Meaningful change requires finding common ground and co-creating solutions.
